Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho is a psychological horror/thriller film that he produced and directed. It was based on Robert Bloch's 1959 book. The plot revolves around an encounter between Marion Crane, a female embezzler, and Norman Bates, the timid proprietor of an empty, lonely old motel, and the events that follow. The picture was contentious at first, and it earned mixed reviews. However, the film's box office performance and public interest prompted a critical re-evaluation. Three Academy Award nominations were given to the picture. The film's sleek directing, tight atmosphere, great camerawork, and memorable performances have earned it such high praise. In American cinema, the picture set a new standard for brutality, aberrant behaviour, and sexuality acceptance.
The case of convicted Wisconsin murderer and grave thief Ed Gein was largely inspired by the novel on which the film was based. They are only loosely connected since, unlike Bates, Gein was not deemed a serial murderer because he was only convicted of murder twice.
Nightcrawler is a 2014 thriller/crime film starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Louis Bloom, a con man in urgent need of work. To become the star of his own narrative, he blurs the barriers between viewer and participant. Louis Bloom captures violent situations on film and sells the material to a local TV station. The movie cost $8.5 million to make and made $50.3 million. Gyllenhaal shed 30 pounds for the movie and slept very little while filming. His eyes bulged out and his cheeks sunk in. The figure appeared to be hungry as a result of this.
